Tuesday, March 19th:
Our JV team started off the week with a great 8-4 victory over Eastlake. Henry looked comfortable and Offense did a great job moving the ball around the field quickly. The offense was led by Connor Stagner and Salim Laimeche which finished with a few goals each. The Henry JV team has had an excellent start to the season and moving into Spring Break.
Our Varsity team also faced Eastlake in a rematch of last years CIF Semi-Final which resulted in a hard fought overtime. Henry has had this game circled on the calendar remembering how the previous year finished. The 1st quarter started with a lot of back and forth play, both teams sharing controlled possession and settled offense. Eastlake broke through first to take a 1-0 lead and held a frustrated Henry offense to conclude the 1st quarter.
Henry started off the 2nd quarter hot and rallied battles for four straight goals. Following an Eastlake response, Henry entered the half with a 4-2 lead after a solid defensive display and goaltending by Luke Carpenter.
Eastlake made some halftime adjustments and connected on six goals in the 3rd quarter, which bested Henry’s two. The score now sat at 6-8 with Eastlake leading by two entering the 4th quarter.
Henry came out firing on all cylinders in the 4th quarter and finished with three straight unanswered goals to win the game 9-8. The offense was dominant in the 4th quarter maintaining control of possession and finishing opportunities when they presented themselves.
Players of the game included Luke Carpenter with 18 saves, Nathan Willis with 10 GBs and 5 takeaways, and Ruben Allen with a multi goal game.
Friday, March 22nd
Henry took on San Dieguito Academy on a beautiful Friday night. Henry started game well taking the 1st quarter with a 5-1 lead thanks to the connection between Ruben Allen and Aidan Rion. The one early goal Henry gave up would be the only one for the rest of the game.
Henry slowed down in the 2nd quarter often settling for outside shots and rushing through fast breaks. They found their groove again in the 3rd quarter tacking on another four goals to take an 10-1 lead entering the 4th quarter. Henry then cruised to an 11-1 win to enter Spring Break.
Players of the game included defenseman Tommy Kenney and Jackson Rayner whom each forced multiple turnovers and picked up ground balls. Aidan Rion for a go and four assists, John Waczek for assistance clearing the ball and creating offensive opportunities, and Sam Moorhead for dominance at the Face-Off X.
Following Spring Break, Henry will take on Del Norte on Tuesday, April 2nd which is looking to be a great competitive game and then beginning their league schedule against Saints on Friday, April 5th.
