Patriot Track & Field Teams Feel Right at Home in New Stadium
By Andrea Zayas Conner and Cassie Pataky
On Wednesday, February 26 Patrick Henry held its first home track meet since construction on the stadium began 3 years ago. The Patriots faced St. Augustine (boys) and Our Lady of Peace (girls). With multiple first place finishes, the practice meet indicates that we have a successful season ahead of us.
In the distance races (3200M, 1600M, 800M), Patrick Henry ran well, especially the Varsity boys, who demonstrated why they were Cross Country League Champions. Sophomore Caden Romaine Gleim was a standout, winning the boys’ varsity heats for the 3200M, 1600M, and 800M, with times of 10:50.1, 4:38.99, and 2:04.5, respectively. Coming off of injury, junior Abigail Hayes also had a great race, winning the girls’ varsity 800M with a time of 2:39.92.
In the sprint races, Henry also had much success. Sophomore Lily Glazebrook won the Junior Varsity 400M with a time of 1:07.64. Daniella Smith, also a sophomore, won the Varsity 100M in 13.16 seconds. There were other first place finishes in the distance, sprint, and hurdle races, and many new athletes who tried out throws or jumps for the first time. We are proud of all of our Patrick Henry Patriots.
Looking forward, the track and field teams compete again at Mt. Carmel Field & Distance Carnival on Saturday, March 7. The meet is in Rancho Penasquitos at Mt. Carmel High School. Races and events start at 9:00 am, so make sure to find your seats before then!
