COUGAR CLASSIC

PATRICK HENRY 2, MISSION HILLS 1

A late run by the Patrick Henry Patriots would be the difference as they limited the Mission Hills Grizzlies on Friday.

After neither team did anything in the first inning the Patriots started off with Shayleen Chapman (RUN, SB) being hit by a pitch, she would steal second base and advance to third when Edie Guthrie (1-2) with one out singled.

With one out and runners at the corners Sydnee Newton promptly sacrificed which Chapman was able to race home safely for the games first run.

Leading 1-0 in the top of the third inning Chapman to work in the circle and easily picked up the first two outs. Unfortunately on a 3-1 count Ariel Fifita made her pay as she blasted a solo homerun to knot the game at 1-1.

With the game tied heading to the bottom of the fourth inning both teams knew runs would come at a premium.

Leadoff hitter Jessica DeWitt would fly out to center field for the first out of the inning. Up stepped Dez Patmon (1-2, R, RBI, HR) who on the very first offering would jack a solo homerun to right field to give the Patriots the lead.

It was all Chapman would need despite giving up three walks in the last couple of innings as she shut down the Falcon bats.

Taking the hard luck loss for the Grizzlies was Leanna Garcia who went 5 innings in which she gave up 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 3.

Chapman spun a 1 hit complete game 6 inning gem despite walking 4 as she struck out 9 on the day.
