Letter from Coach Forrest
Hello Softball Patriots,
I hope you’re all healthy and staying safe.
As you may know, CIF has now officially cancelled the spring 2020 season. As such, our 2020 Patrick Henry softball season is over. I can’t express to you all how disappointed I am that this group of girls will not be able to further compete in their respective divisions. Both our Varsity and our JV teams were off to a successful and exciting start. I know we would have competed with the best of them in our league play, and I was looking forward to a long run into CIF with our Varsity girls.
I’m most disappointed for our two senior players, Lauren Nett and Ari Rios. Lauren is an exceptional player who has been on Varsity all four years at Henry. She is a team leader who takes the game and her part in it very seriously, and she will be sorely missed. She takes her classes very seriously too, and is headed to Boston University in the fall on a scholarship. I’m looking forward to continuing to follow her softball journey there. Ari is an extremely hard worker who has also spent four years as a Varsity player. We lost her last season to a NACL replacement but she came back this year stronger than ever. She is always willing to help and sets a great example for her teammates. Ari is also excelling in her classes, and is headed to either Chico State or Humboldt State. We wish these two the very best of luck and will miss them greatly.
I know you are all still working hard and keeping your softball skills sharp. You would not have been selected to our program if you didn’t take this seriously, and I appreciate that you are all continuing to do so. Please keep up the hard work.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank our other coaches. Coach Greg and Coach Bud have helped me with the Varsity team, and Coach Marlen, Coach Thomas, Coach Rick and Coach Eric have been working with the JV team. Our program is better because of their involvement and their willingness to do whatever is needed to help you girls. They coach, mentor and counsel as well as maintain your fields, build your batting cage, assemble nets and equipment, mow the grass, and a million other things that you all might not realize. Our program is successful because we all work together, so thanks to our coaching staff for making that happen.
I also want to thank the Patrick Henry Athletic Director, Mr. Cody Clark, as well as the Principal, Mrs. Listy Gillingham. They have gone over and above to keep us informed throughout the season, but their efforts during this shutdown are even more appreciated.
Finally, I want to thank the parents for their cooperation. To the parents who kept score, ran GameChanger, shagged balls, ran errands, worked with the snack bar, donated money, and supported our program; Thank you. None of this happens without you.
On the bright side, I’m looking forward to where our program will be for the 2020-21 season. Let’s keep the success going!
In this unprecedented time, none of us can predict what is coming at us next. Please continue to follow recommendations about how best to stay safe. Above all, please continue to be the great people you are.
