Dear Patriot Families,

We would like to welcome you to the 2020 – 2021 school year. We hope you have found time to enjoy the recent summer with your family and loved ones. I believe you would agree our community has been navigating truly unique times. The San Diego Unified School District has been actively developing the opening of school plans. We would like to take this opportunity to share information that has been available so far.

Enrollment

We are currently scheduled to have approximately 2,630 students. We are validating our enrollment information. Please note that our clerical staff is currently off calendar until Monday, August 17th, they will respond to all correspondence as soon as possible upon their return to work.

Not Attending Patrick Henry High School?
Families planning not to attend Henry should send an email to Chris Genung at cgenung@sandi.net.  Please include your student’s full name, grade they are entering, and the name of the school they will attend.

Who Does NOT Need To Enroll?
Continuing students and 8th grade students who attended one of the following neighborhood middle schools last year are automatically enrolled at Henry for next year. No additional action is required.

Families of 9th-12 grade students who recently moved to our community should enroll their children at Henry. Student Schedule / Class Placement
Our staff is currently working to develop student schedules for 2020-21. Many factors are involved in this process including master schedule development, evaluating academic history, and student performance. If you have any course request changes, you will need to contact your counselor to ask for a change. Our counselors serve the following students:

Registration Days
We will distribute textbooks, 2020 yearbooks (to those who purchased them last year) and other supplies on the following dates between the hours of 8:00am-3pm:
August 19, 2020 – Seniors
August 20, 2020 – Juniors
August 21, 2020 – Sophomores
August 24, 2020 – Freshmen (A-L)
August 25, 2020 – Freshmen (M-Z)

In order to support social distancing, we are going to stagger distribution by alphabetical order. If your schedule does not fit with the schedule below, we will serve you at any time. We will have a make up day during the week of August 31, more information to follow.

You will need to remain in your car while we secure your textbooks and other items and we will bring these items to you.

Attention returning Patriots – If you have any textbooks, uniforms or other items you need to return from last year, please return these items on your registration day.

Attention 9th graders – Please return the laptop/Chromebook that you received last Spring.  We will issue you a brand-new laptop on your registration day!

Orientation
Strong student/teacher relationships are critical to student success. This important work begins during student orientation. Our staff is working to develop a virtual orientation designed to introduce students to our school, our staff, and their online learning environment. This will include learning opportunities for students and parents regarding how to navigate our Learning Management System (LMS). More information to follow.

First Week Of School
The first day of school will be August 31. We will begin this school year online. Students will have access to differentiated, standards-based activities that build skills for online learning, develop social emotional skills, engage in content standards and provide an opportunity for voice and choice. While teachers are engaging in professional development they will also make contact with their students during this week. More information to follow shortly.

Student School Day Overview
The San Diego Unified School District is committed to providing custom learning experiences based on student needs five days a week. Students will not be expected to participate in six hours of continuous video conferencing each day. Each school day will include daily live, online instruction, independent learning, and opportunities to work with other students in small groups. Scheduled opportunities to communicate with teachers will be made available as well.

In this very unprecedented year with extraordinary circumstances, our school year will operate differently.

The 2020-2021 Patrick Henry High School Bell Schedule is as follows:
Period 1 – 8:50am – 10:04am
Period 2 – 10:13am – 11:27am
Period 3 – 11:36am – 12:50pm
Lunch – 12:59pm – 1:29pm
Asynchronous Learning Time – 1:38pm – 3:29pm

*Students will take 3 courses over the course of each semester (18 weeks) to total 6 courses by the end of 36 weeks.

Scheduled Return Date For Onsite Learning
The San Diego Unified School District continues to coordinate with UCSD and local and state health officials regarding a possible timeline for returning to onsite learning. We encourage you to visit the SDUSD website for more information.
