Student-Athletes, Parents, and Community,
We continue to endure these difficult times. I am so very proud of our students. We are poised to expand our athletics participation on campus while continuing to be cautious and mindful of the health and safety of all our student-athletes, coaches, staff, families, and community. Below is an update to our district’s response to creating a safe environment as well as the process for CIF seasons to begin. We are encouraged by this positive movement but must remain focused on the safety of everyone involved. I am hopeful that the reconnection of our athletics programs with our student-athletes will benefit not only the physical but also the social-emotional health of everyone. I know how anxious we all are to get started. I am excited!
Athletics Programs that will begin to have outdoor athletics facility access on February 1 will be:
*Badminton (Offseason conditioning-CIF TBD)
*Cross Country (CIF season begins February 1)
*Field Hockey (Offseason conditioning-CIF TBD)
*Football (Offseason conditioning-CIF TBD)
*Golf (Girls-CIF season begins February 8)
*Golf (Boys-CIF season begins February 15)
*Tennis (Co-ed-CIF season begins February 15)
*Track & Field (Co-ed-CIF season begins February 15)
*Swim & Dive (Co-ed-CIF season begins February 1)
*Volleyball (Girls-Offseason conditioning-CIF TBD)
We will have a mandatory Zoom meeting for the following programs: Badminton (Boys & Girls),Golf (Boys & Girls), Swim & Dive (Boys & Girls), Tennis (Boys & Girls), Track & Field (Boys & Girls), and Girls Volleyball. This will be Monday January 25 at 6:00pm. I will send out the Zoom link and password to everyone who has registered through athleticclearance.com the morning of Monday January 25. If you have not completed your registration through athleticclearance.com please do so asap.
This meeting will go over the SDUSD health & safety protocols, practice schedules, updated information, and answer any questions.
SDUSD Health & Safety Protocols
Prior to each team practice and competition every athlete will need to complete a “Daily Symptoms Checklist”. On the very first day of practice all athletes need to have a completed hard copy of this checklist with them signed by the student-athlete AND parent/guardian. Following the first day, the daily symptom checklist can be completed at home and online through ClearPass (more information about this will be provided at the 1/28 meeting).
Here is the form to download and print: Athletics_ Daily Student Symptom Checklist
If a student-athlete checks “yes” to the final question on the above checklist then they are required to complete the “Medical Referral for Post-COVID” form signed by their doctor. This must be turned in prior to any athletic involvement.
Here is the form to download and print: Medical-Referral-for-Post-COVID-students1
This is a very important step so that all student-athletes can participate on the very first day.
The Administrative team will go through the athletic clearance registration for all athletic programs scheduled to have facility access on February 1. All clearances will be completed by 4:00pm on January 29. At that time all student-athletes will be able to see that they are cleared and ready to participate. Reminder that everyone will need to bring with them the “Daily Symptoms Checklist.” We will not have clearance cards this year. Coaches will have a master list of all athletes cleared.

CIF Updates to Previous Rule Changes
The CIF State office updated previous rule changes in response to the CDPH guidelines.
- Multi-Sport athletes in a single season will no longer be permitted. CDPH guidelines require athletes to stay in a single cohort (team).
- Club participation during the high school season will no longer be permitted. CDPH guidelines require athletes to stay in a single cohort (team).
Athletes will be permitted a one-time change of sport in the event of a CDPH announcement of tier change (for example Purple to Red tier).
Example: Student-Athlete begins with cross country and then can make a one time change to field hockey in the case of a move to the Red tier.
As we continue to progress through the winter and into the spring, it is my hope that we will continue to expand athletics access for a broader range of our student-athletes. Please continue to check the athletics website for updates. As always, if you have any questions please email me: email@example.com
