Multiple Teams · Cross Country Returns to Action in First Eastern League Meet!

Long Wait is Over As Cross Country Competes at Serra HS

The Patrick Henry Cross Country Team finally launched their 2020 season – in February 2021 – and they certainly showed that they were ready and excited to toe the starting line.

Senior Charlie Dunnigan wasted no time in moving to the front along with Juniors Preston Bowlds and James Brumley never letting up to finish 1, 2, and 3. They were followed by senior Aiden Davis (4th), sophomore Matthew Perez (5th), and freshmen Cooper “Coop” Lawrence (6th) and Micah Romaine Gleim (7th). Dunnigan covered the course in 15:34 followed by Bowlds in 15:38. Bowld’s performance garnered him Animal of the Meet honors.

Senior Abby Hayes cruised to the win easily in 21:29 followed by juniors Samantha Gantney (2nd) and Andrea Zayas-Conner (3rd), senior Simone McJilton (4th) and freshman Chloe Iannuzzi (5th). McJilton earned Animal of the Meet honors for her strong finish and consistent race.

Senior Cormac Evans (with Sean) returned to competition for the Patriot squad for the first time in two years and the smile on his face says it all – capturing what I’m sure we all felt during the day. Junior Jacob Soule’s determination, commitment, and hard work paid off in this race, showing marked improvement over last season and earning him Animal of the Meet honors.

With a return to competition and the prospects for a great season, the Patriot Harriers look to continue their success against Serra High School on Thursday, February 18 at Morley Field.
